Weight Gain After Weight Loss: Common Mistakes To Avoid

Onlymyhealth Tamil

If you've ever tried to lose weight or go on a diet, you know that maintaining weight is more difficult than losing it. You can lose all your weight by going hard on yourself, but you won't be able to keep it off for long. In reality, weight fluctuates depending on the foods you eat. For example, if you eat a high-sodium meal, you may experience bloating, but this may subside after a few days. Similarly, two to three kgs of weight gain after dieting is normal, but anything more than that indicates something is wrong. So, if you're sick of running on the treadmill and still can't get rid of those love handles, here are some mistakes to avoid.

1) Instant Bulk

Just as there is a way of cutting calories, similarly, there is a way to increase calories. When dieting, if you were consuming 1500 calories and suddenly you would start consuming 2500 calories, it would definitely result in weight gain. The best approach is to begin by increasing the 200 calories and then adding a few calories each week. If you take it slow, it will also give your body time to adjust and help boost performance.

2) You Quit Weighing Yourself

We become so confident when we reach our goal weight that we stop weighing ourselves. And when we suddenly gain seven to eight kg, and it shows on our face and belly, we realise we have gained weight again. However, if you make weight tracking a part of your daily routine, you will be able to understand your body better and determine what is causing this weight gain.

3) You Are Overeating

We gain weight when we eat in surplus, which frequently occurs due to overeating. Even if you are eating healthily, chances are you are overeating. The best method is to eat in intervals and to practise portion control. Always use small plates so you can fill your plate with less food and consume fewer calories.

4) You Stopped Exercising

Assume you reached your goal weight when you were consuming 1700 calories per day and burning 500 calories while exercising. What happens now that you've stopped exercising but increased your calorie intake? You will almost certainly gain weight. To stay in shape, you must balance your calories in vs calories out. So, the next time you increase your calorie intake, balance it out by working in the gym.

5) Your Lifestyle Changed

From eating meals on time to drinking water after every two hours, losing weight requires you to follow a pattern and live a structured life. And when you get out of this phase, your habits change, which is why you gain weight. So, even if you've reached your ideal weight, remember the basics: get enough sleep, eat fruits, and don't skip meals.
